Passivhaus exhibition

The North West Construction Knowledge Hub (NWCKH) is hosting an exhibition of Passivhaus products at the CUBE gallery in Manchester, in conjunction with Passivhaus specialists 21°. The exhibition will run until Monday 27th September 2010 at CUBE ( at 113-115 Portland Street, Manchester, M1 6DW (Tel: 0161 237 5525).

The Passivhaus products in the exhibition area include:

  • Passivhaus windows and doors:  These are among the most thermally efficient windows and doors available in the UK (and the world!), with whole U values as low as 0.65 W/m2K. Available in FSC sustainably-sourced timber or timber.
  • Pro Clima airtightness membranes and tapes:  These building products can help buildings achieve the high levels of airtightness required for Passivhaus buildings, as well as protecting building structures from condensation, mould, rot and damp through use of ‘intelligent’ vapour checks.
  • PAUL Comfort Ventilation (MVHR) systems: Comfort ventilation (also known as Mechanical Ventilation Heat Recovery) is an essential part of Passivhaus building design and helps circulate air and keeps heat in the building, through use of a heat exchanger. PAUL’s heat exchanger is one of the most efficient on the market and can offer exceptional heat recovery of up to 92%.

21° has recently completed construction of the Denby Dale Passivhaus, which is the UK’s first cavity wall Passivhaus and subject of BUILDING’s popular Passivhaus Diaries blog.
21° will also be previewing its technical DVD on ‘Building the Denby Dale Passivhaus’ at CUBE. Visitors to the exhibition will get a chance to see clips of the film and to register for the free technical DVD and briefing materials.

The North West Construction Knowledge Hub is led by The Centre for Construction Innovation (CCI) and the University of Salford’s School of the Built Environment (SoBE), and is hosting the exhibition as  part of CCI’s and CUBE’s promotion of sustainable construction and will help demonstrate Passivhaus as a good design and construction method for the North West.

Breakfast seminar

The North West Construction Knowledge Hub and 21° are holding a lively breakfast seminar on ‘Designing & building a Passivhaus using standard UK building techniques’ on Tuesday 14th September 2010, at CUBE, 113-115 Portland Street, Manchester, M1 6DW. The seminar will include a technical case study of the Denby Dale Passivhaus – the UK’s first cavity wall Passivhaus and will run from 08.00 to 10.00.

The event will outline the design detailing used at the Denby Dale Passivhaus to get cavity wall construction to perform to Passivhaus standards. There will also be the chance to see an exclusive preview of sections of the Denby Dale Passivhaus technical film and the short Future Passiv documentary on Passivhaus design.

There will be an opportunity to view CUBE’s Passivhaus exhibition during registration and after the debate.
